Murree in Summer or Winter: Which Season Should You Choose?
Cool green summers or snowy winters? How the seasons in Murree compare for crowds, weather, roads and the kind of stay you will have.
Murree is a different place depending on the month, and choosing the season is the biggest decision you will make for the trip.
Summer (April to September)
Cool, green and comfortable while the plains bake. Days are good for walking, chairlift rides and long meals on a balcony. Weekends and school holidays are busy, so book early. In July and August the monsoon brings thick mist and heavy rain, which looks wonderful but needs careful driving.
Autumn (October and November)
Clear skies, crisp air and far fewer people. This is the quiet season, with the best light for photographs and the easiest roads.
Winter and snowfall (December to February)
The snow is why many families travel. It is also when the roads are hardest and the town is busiest. Snowfall cannot be predicted far ahead, so keep your dates flexible. Carry chains if your car needs them, check road advice before you leave and arrive in daylight. A heated apartment with a fireplace or good heating makes all the difference.
Which should you pick?
- Families with young children: summer or autumn.
- Snow seekers: January, with a flexible plan.
- Couples wanting peace: autumn or a mid-week summer stay.
