Murree Snowfall Season: A Practical Guide for Families

7 October 2026 · 2 min read · By Prime Stays Pakistan

When to go, how to plan the drive and what to pack for snowfall in Murree. Realistic advice so the trip stays enjoyable.

Snow turns Murree into one of the most popular winter destinations in Pakistan. It also means crowds, slow roads and cold nights, so a little planning makes a big difference.

When does it snow?

Snowfall usually arrives between December and February, with January the most likely month for heavy falls. It cannot be predicted far ahead, so watch the forecast in the days before you travel and keep your dates flexible if you can.

Plan the drive

  • Check the weather forecast and road advice from the National Highways and Motorway Police before leaving.
  • Start early. Roads fill up quickly after fresh snow and on weekends.
  • Make sure your vehicle is in good condition, with good tyres and a full tank.
  • Carry snow chains for cars that need them and know how to fit them.
  • Aim to arrive in daylight. The final stretch to many guest houses is steep.

Choose where to stay carefully

Staying close to where you plan to spend your time avoids long drives in snow. For a calmer trip, look at Bhurban or Patriata rather than the centre. Check for heating, hot water, parking and power backup before you book, and read our guide to where to stay in Murree.

What to pack

  • Warm layers, waterproof jacket and gloves
  • Boots with good grip
  • Spare socks and a change of clothes for children
  • Torch and power bank
  • Basic snacks and water

Keep dates flexible

Many guests book a night in Rawalpindi or Islamabad first and head up when the road is clear. If your Murree booking is flexible, you can decide the day before. Message us with your dates and we will help you plan.
