Murree is the most visited hill station near Islamabad, at around 2,200 metres in the Pir Panjal foothills. Summers are mild when the plains are hot, and from December to February snowfall turns the town white, which is when most families make the trip.
A private guest house or furnished apartment gives your group room to spread out, a kitchen and parking, and often a quieter location than the busy centre. Book early for weekends, school holidays and any forecast snowfall, because the best places fill up first.
Good for
- Snowfall trips in winter
- Summer escapes from the heat
- Family and group holidays
- Honeymoons and quiet weekends
- Corporate retreats
Getting there
Murree is roughly 60 km from Islamabad. In normal conditions the drive takes about 1.5 to 2 hours, and much longer on snowfall weekends. In winter check the weather and road advice from the National Highways and Motorway Police before you leave, carry snow chains for cars that need them, and aim to arrive in daylight.
