How the main Islamabad sectors compare for a short stay, a business trip or a month-long visit, and which one suits you.

Islamabad is laid out in lettered sectors, and where you stay changes how your trip feels. This guide compares the areas guests ask about most.

F-6 and F-7: cafes and convenience

These are the most requested sectors for short stays. Markets such as Super Market and Jinnah Super, restaurants, cafes and the Margalla Hills are all close. Expect lively streets in the evening. Choose F-6 or F-7 when you want to walk to dinner.

F-8, F-10 and F-11: calm and residential

Quieter streets, good shops and easy access to the main roads. These sectors suit business trips and stays of a week or longer, when you want a peaceful base more than a view of the bazaar.

Blue Area: the business centre

Offices, banks and hotels are within walking distance. It is the most practical place to stay for meetings and conferences, though it feels busier and more commercial in the evenings.

E-11, D-12 and Bahria Enclave: space and value

Newer apartment buildings and gated communities that are usually better value for longer stays. You will use a car or ride-hailing app more often, but you get more room for the price.

How to choose

  • A weekend or a short break: F-6 or F-7.
  • A business trip: Blue Area or F-10.
  • A month or more: E-11 or Bahria Enclave.
  • A family with children: a calm residential sector with a kitchen and parking.
