Rawalpindi to Murree: Route, Timing and Where to Stay
How to get from Rawalpindi to Murree, how long it takes, the best time to leave and how to split your stay between the two.
Murree is the classic escape from Rawalpindi, and many guests combine the two: a few nights in the city, then a few in the hills. Here is how to plan it.
The route
Most drivers take Murree Road out of Rawalpindi and join the Expressway towards Murree. The drive is usually around two hours, but weekends, summer holidays and snowfall days can double it. Leave early in the morning and avoid returning on a Sunday evening.
Where to sleep
- Rawalpindi (Bahria Town, DHA, Saddar): best for airport access, shopping, hospitals and value for money.
- Murree (Mall Road, Bhurban, Patriata): best for cool air, views and a proper hill-station break.
A common plan is two nights in Rawalpindi to settle in, then two or three nights in Murree.
Tips
- Check the weather and road status before you leave in winter.
- Carry some cash for small shops, because card machines are not everywhere in the hills.
- Book hill stays early for weekends, Eid and the snowfall season.
